Barra is located at the southern end of the Outer Hebrides and can be reached by ferry or by plane.
By AirYou can fly to Barra from Glasgow in as little as an hour on the daily Loganair service. It is a truly unforgettable experience to fly to Barra as the plane lands on the only airport in the world which is washed over by the tide twice a day. Because of the tide, flight schedules vary, so please check with LoganAir. The local bus and taxi services meet all flights. Alternatively it is a scenic 3.5 mile walk to the cottage.
By FerryCar ferry services are operated by Caledonian MacBrayne from Oban to Castlebay, Barra's main port. The direct route takes just under 5 hours and booking is advised, especially in the high season.
From Other Outer Hebridean IslandsThe Sound of Barra ferry has six daily sailings and connects Barra and Eriskay/South Uist. Worth a trip, just for the magical views.
